Comparison of Simple Graphical Process Models

    Get PDF
Comparing the structure of graphical process models can reveal a number of process variations. Since most contemporary norms for process modelling rely on directed connectivity of objects in the model, connections between objects form sequences which can be translated into performing scenarios. Whereas sequences can be tested for completeness in performing process activities using simulation methods, the similarity or difference in static characteristics of sequences in different model variants are difficult to explore. The goal of the paper is to test the application of a method for comparison of graphical models by analyzing and comparing static characteristics of process models. Consequently, a metamodel for process models is developed followed by a comparison procedure conducted using a graphical model comparison algorithm

Modelling is the basis for research and development of IT systems. Graphical models and graphic representations of models originally built in non-graphic languages and formalisms are often used. In modelling IT systems a need exists for comparing graphical models which can represent different variations of the same or similar modelled content or graphical models which, with certain revisions, could be applied in various domains. Graphical model in the latter case first needs to be translated into another form of predicate expressions or formal languages of modelled content representation. The lack of translation of the model for comparison is a time-consuming venture and may result in the loss of modelled relations due to differences in the "language" and representation symbols. The goal of the paper is to explore and propose methods and procedures for determining similarities of IT systems based on the comparison of their graphical data models. The procedure of determining the similarities of graphical data models of the same type shall at the end of my research be based on semantic and structural similarity of models. In this article procedures for determining semantic similarity and their application is discussed together with examples and the procedure for determining structural similarity is proposed in roughly as it is in the finishing state of current research activities

Digitalna transformacija poslovanja obuhvaća dizajn i razvoj poslovnih procesa kojima će se generirati novi proizvodi i usluge, anticipirajući mogućnosti suvremenih i dolazećih tehnologija. Digital business transformation involves design and development of business processes that will generate new products and services, anticipating the possibilities of modern and incoming technologies. It is therefore necessary to design new products and services that an enterprise can deliver by executing its processes, before any idea or need exists on the market for new designed products or services. In this context of digital business transformation, it is essential to identify the key dimensions of customer perception that may be relevant to the marketing strategy of creating demand for a new product or service for future customers. This paper will explore classical dimensions of customer perception regarding the impact of modern and incoming technologies, and then describe how the results of the explored dimensions can be used to design a marketing strategy for a new product or service of a digitally transformed business

Digital transformation is an emerging trend in developing the way how the work is being done, and it is present in the private and public sector, in all industries and fields of work. Smart cities, as one of the concepts related to digital transformation, is usually seen as a matter of local governments, as it is their responsibility to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens. Some cities have already taken advantages of possibilities offered by the concept of smart cities, creating new values to all stakeholders interacting in the living city ecosystems, thus serving as examples of good practice, while others are still developing and growing on their intentions to become smart. This paper provides a structured literature analysis and investigates key scope, services and technologies related to smart cities and digital transformation as concepts of empowering social and collaboration interactions, in order to identify leading factors in most smart city initiatives

Background: Complexity of the digital transformation (Digital Transformation) paradigm and its relation to the fourth technological revolution face companies with serious challenges when it comes to keeping up with the competition or becoming a leader in operating industries. Objectives: The goal of our research is to systematize, analyse and evaluate technological and business concepts of Digital Transformation, in order to identify and investigate Digital Transformation initiatives in Croatia. Methods/Approach: To accomplish this goal, we used a multiple-case study approach to gather data from experts who participated in successful Digital Transformation initiatives. Results: Questionnaires were developed and used to gather both, qualitative background and technology-business related data relevant for Digital Transformation initiativesā€™ success, discussed in the last part of the paper. The limitation of this study is a relatively small number of case studies (6), as well as its local coverage, resulting therefore with conclusions, which will serve as a base for future studies. Conclusions: There are several background, business, and technology-related concepts or factors relevant to Digital Transformation initiatives: profile and involvement of external Digital Transformation experts; the transformation drivers and expectations. In achieving most significant business concepts for business transformation, no single one right combination of technological concepts could be explicitly determined

Digital transformation (DT) introduces strategy-oriented and customer-centric changes, based on innovative usage of emerging information and communication technology (ICT), to implement improved or new processes in modern organizations. This paper provides insights into academic publishing trends and offers an analysis of scientific fields in which researches were made followed by a brief analysis of the most influential articles. Paper also identifies and discusses key determinants and influence factors of DT and some emerging trends and technologies, in order to explain organizational and technological context of DT. For better understanding of this mix of business and ICT related concepts, a framework of concepts on DT was developed and called Digital transformation playground (DTP). Its purpose is to get better understanding of what are the mainstream concepts of today, what other and emerging ICT or digitalization concepts in the context of DT arise, and how these technology elements impact business related concepts

Understanding the Success Factors in Adopting Business Process Management Software: Case Studies

    Get PDF
A number of studies on the successes and failures of business process management (BPM) have been conducted with the aim of identifying BPM adoption success factors. The complex and comprehensive nature of BPM has resulted in the lack of a generally accepted framework for successful BPM adoption. One general means of ensuring BPM success is through the adoption of business process management software (BPMS). The fact that there is currently no consensus as to a generally accepted definition of BPM software makes it difficult to define the criteria for its selection. There are several reasons for this: (i) the size and complexity of the field, (ii) determining business needs is not always straightforward, and (iii) the BPM software market is complex and its features and capabilities vary greatly across vendors. In this article, we examine the contextual and technical perspectives of BPMS adoption and related critical success factors (CSF). The goal of this study was to propose BPMS selection guidelines with regard to the organizational, environmental and technological CSFs of BPMS adoption, to support decision makers in selecting the right BPMS. To accomplish this, we applied a multiple-case study approach and carried out a set of interviews in companies that have fully or partly adopted BPMS. Semi-structured interviews were used to gather quantitative data for those topics that can be evaluated numerically, and qualitative contextual (organizational and environmental) CSFs relevant for BPMS adoption success

A Framework for BPM Software Selection in Relation to Digital Transformation Drivers

    Get PDF
Business process management (BPM) is nowadays almost a traditional paradigm of assuring operational excellence. Within emerging approaches for boosting organizational readiness and maturity to cope with digital challenges, BPM transforms as well. In order to investigate the role of BPM and BPM software (BPMS) in relation to these approaches we explore drivers of digital transformation (DT). Based on the mapping of BPMS dimensions and drivers of DT, we propose a framework for self-assessment which allows evaluation of the significance of BPMS dimension in relation to DT. The framework was tested on multiple case-studies to analyse what their BPMS priorities are and how these priorities influence their digital transformation. AHP analysis was performed by prioritizing BPM\u27s dimensions mapped with DT drivers and it served as a basis for assessing the level of digital maturity of the observed companies. This article therefore deals with the following: (1) it briefly discusses BPM and DT as concepts, (2) it demonstrates how AHP can serve for selecting BPM software and (3) it shows that BPM dimensions can be linked to Digital Transformation
